ISRO चीफ सोमनाथ ने कहा कि विज्ञान के मूल सिद्धांत प्राचीन भारत के वेदों से ही निकले हैं. सोमनाथ के मुताबिक, अलजेब्रा, स्क्वायर रूट्स, समय की गणना, आर्किटेक्चर, ब्रह्मांड की संरचना और यहां तक कि एविएशन की जानकारी भी सबसे पहले वेदों में ही मिली थीं. इसके बाद ये सारा ज्ञान अरब के रास्ते होते हुए यूरोप के पश्चिमी देशों में पहुंचा और विदेशी वैज्ञानिकों ने इसे अपनी खोज बताकर दुनिया के सामने पेश किया. ISRO चीफ ने ये बातें उज्जैन में महर्षि पाणिनि संस्कृत और वैदिक यूनिवर्सिटी के दीक्षांत समारोह में कहीं. सोमनाथ ने बताया कि दिक्कत ये थी कि भारतीय वैज्ञानिकों का ये सारा ज्ञान संस्कृत भाषा में था और ये भाषा तब लिखी नहीं जाती थी. लोग एक दूसरे से संस्कृत भाषा में ज्ञान लेते थे और सिर्फ सुनकर ही याद रखते थे, इस तरह ये भाषा बची रही. हालांकि बाद में लोगों ने संस्कृत के लिए देवनागरी लिपि का इस्तेमाल करना शुरू किया, माना जाता है कि पाणिनि ने ही संस्कृत व्याकरण के नियम लिखे. सोमनाथ ने कहा कि संस्कृत में लिखा गया भारतीय साहित्य ना केवल दार्शनिक रूप में महत्वपूर्ण है, बल्कि वैज्ञानिक नजरिए से भी अहमियत रखता है. उन्होंने कहा कि संस्कृत में सांस्कृतिक, आध्यात्मिक और वैज्ञानिक अध्ययन में कोई अंतर नहीं है. ISRO चीफ ने बताया कि हजारों साल पहले भारतीय वैज्ञानिकों ने एस्ट्रोनॉमी, मेडिसिन, फिजिक्स, एरोनॉटिकल साइंस जैसे विषयों पर अपना शोध संस्कृत में लिखा था, जिनका पूरी तरह से इस्तेमाल नहीं किया गया और न ही उन पर ज्यादा रिसर्च की गई.
ISRO Chief Somnath said that the basic principles of science have emerged from the Vedas of ancient India. According to Somnath, information about algebra, square roots, calculation of time, architecture, the structure of the universe and even aviation was first found in the Vedas. After this, all this knowledge reached the western countries of Europe via Arabia and foreign scientists presented it to the world as their discovery. ISRO Chief said these things at the convocation ceremony of Maharishi Panini Sanskrit and Vedic University in Ujjain. Somnath told that the problem was that all this knowledge of Indian scientists was in Sanskrit language and this language was not written then. People used to take knowledge from each other in Sanskrit language and used to remember only by listening, in this way this language survived. Although later people started using Devanagari script for Sanskrit, it is believed that Panini wrote the rules of Sanskrit grammar. Somnath said that Indian literature written in Sanskrit is not only important from a philosophical point of view, but is also important from a scientific point of view.
