आज की खबर कोलकाता की ऐतिहासिक पहचान ट्राम से है. मीडिया रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक, पश्चिम बंगाल सरकार कोलकाता की डेढ़ सौ साल पुरानी इस विरासत को हटाने की तैयारी में है. बताया जा रहा है कि नए साल यानी 2024 से कोलकाता में सिर्फ एक ही रूट पर ट्राम चलाई जाएगी. सरकार की योजना है कि एस्प्लेनेड से खिदिरपुर रूट पर ही ट्राम सेवा रहेगी जो कि पर्यटन और मनोरंजन के लिहाज से चलाई जाएगी. दरअसल, कोलकाता पुलिस ने परिवहन विभाग को खत लिखा है कि शहर में ट्राम लाइन से सड़कों पर जाम और दुर्घटनाएं होती हैं, इसलिए इन्हें हटाने की जरूरत है.

The government plans to run tram service only on the Esplanade to Khidirpur route, which will be run for tourism and entertainment purposes. In fact, Kolkata Police has written a letter to the Transport Department that tram lines in the city cause jams and accidents on the roads, hence there is a need to remove them.
