किसी पवित्र नदी से जल भरकर शिवलिंग पर जल अर्पित करना चाहिए. इसके लिए गंगा नदी का जल सर्वश्रेष्ठ है. कांवड़ के जल को भूमि पर नहीं रखना चाहिए. जो लोग भी कांवड़ उठाते हैं , ऐसे लोग एक समय भोजन करते हैं. कांवड़िये कांवड़ यात्रा के दौरान शिव मंत्र का जाप करते रहते हैं.
