गणेश महोत्सव गणेश जी के प्राकट्य के लिए मनाया जाता है. गणेश जी का प्राकट्य भाद्रपद शुक्ल चतुर्थी को हुआ था. माना जाता है कि चतुर्थी से लगभग दस दिनों तक भगवान गणेश धरती पर रहते हैं. इस अवधि में भगवान गणेश धरती पर आकार अपने भक्तों की मनोकामनाएँ पूरी करते हैं. गणेश चतुर्थी की पूजा की अवधि, जिसमे गणेश जी धरती पर निवास करते हैं,अनंत चतुर्दशी तक चलती है.

Ganesh Mahotsav is celebrated for the appearance of Lord Ganesha. Lord Ganesha appeared on Bhadrapada Shukla Chaturthi. It is believed that Lord Ganesha stays on earth for about ten days from Chaturthi. During this period, Lord Ganesha appears on earth and fulfills the wishes of his devotees. The period of worship of Ganesh Chaturthi, during which Lord Ganesha resides on earth, continues till Anant Chaturdashi.
