भगवान शिव का न कोई स्वरूप है और न ही आकार, इसीलिए वे निराकार हैं. भोलेनाथ ही एक ऐसे भगावान हैं जो शिवलिंग के रूप में इस धरती पर विद्यमान हैं. आदि और अंत न होने से लिंग को शिव का निराकार रूप माना जाता है जबकि उनके साकार रूप में भगवान शंकर मानकर पूजा जाता है. यूं तो भगवान शिव के रहस्य को समझ पाना इंसान के वश में नहीं है लेकिन वेदों, पुराणों और जानकारों ने शिव के बारे में बहुत कुछ बताया है.
Lord Shiva has neither form nor shape, that's why he is formless. Bholenath is the only God who is present on this earth in the form of Shivling. Since there is no beginning and end, the linga is considered to be the formless form of Shiva, while it is worshiped as Lord Shankar in its corporeal form.
